Frequently Asked Questions

What does a session of IDD therapy entail?

We begin each session by warming the muscles and ligaments with a heat pad, treatment is then performed using the Accu-SPINA machine and then to finish patients undergo a cooling process which calms the treated area. In total, a single session lasts one hour.

Osteopathy is the science of human mechanics. It is an established, recognised system of diagnosis and treatment that lays emphasis on the structural integrity of the body. It is essentially a natural therapy. It is distinctive in the fact that it recognises much of the pain and disability we suffer stems from abnormalities in the function of the body structure as well as damage caused to it by disease. Osteopathy uses many of the diagnostic procedures used in conventional medical assessment and diagnosis. Its main strength, however, lies in the unique way the patient is assessed from a mechanical, functional and postural standpoint and the manual methods of treatment applied to suit the needs of the individual patient.

You will need to be available for the full course of treatment over several weeks. You should not take any non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as Ibuprofen, for two weeks before and throughout your treatment period. If you are unsure if any of your medicines contain NSAIDs then please check with your doctor, nurse or pharmacist. Wear comfortable clothing. You may be asked to undress, depending on the area to be treated.
‘WHICH’ report of October 1986 suggested that osteopathy was the most widely used complementary therapy; that the majority of patients who consulted an osteopath did so because of back pain; and that nearly 90% of patients claimed to have been cured or improved by treatment.
Treatment will be performed in the physiotherapy department, though locations may change if necessary. You will be asked to lie on your front with your legs supported by a pillow if treating Achilles or heel pain, or on your back for knee, or side with hip pain. The clinician will put ultrasound gel over the area and place the device hand piece on the gel. ESWT is delivered using the hand piece – delivering compressed air pulses through the ultrasound gel. Each treatment takes approximately five minutes.
